Economic rationality, or how ideology has broken our economy.
by JonathanH inso i won't name where i work (some may already know) but since i decided to go to college i started working in at a retail chain so i could get flexible hours.
the pay is poor, and it is a pretty silly job, but it puts at least some money in my pocket while i work towards something better.
anyway, they recently made every one attend a big meeting where they rolled out the new "restructure" of the work force.

giordano:
my experience as a witness was the polar opposite. i found the witness youth to be extremely...hateful and the worldly friends i made treated me far better than the witnesses ever did.
i left the kingdom hall i grew up in the first meeting after i turned 18. as soon as the meeting was over i told my elders that i was officially switching halls and that would be my last meeting with them. up to that point, the people i was hanging out with had a habit of going behind my back to do things and purposeflly left me out and that was so hurtful. i trned down the colleges (PLURAL) of my dreams in large part because i thought i was doing the right thing and that jehovah's people would encourage and uplift me. i literally gave up EVERYTHING in order to remain a jw and i got a cold hard slap in the face for that. a couple months before, and this was years ago but i still remember it like yesterday, i went to another hall to visit a couple friends and they didn't know i was there. i went to say hi and they looked confused as to why i was there, not because they weren't happy to see me, but because the other group was at that very moment at the movies and i had no idea. at that very moment, i told myself that as soon as my 18th bday came around and i could officially switch halls, i was going to. that first meeting after i turned 18, i made a beeline to the elders i was closest to, told him that was my last meeting as i had turned 18 a couple days before and left right after.
turning down the universities i was accepted at, that STILL gets to me, i mean it's been the source of so much agony and depression, i can't even begin to describe it all and what really hurt is that they started being extremely nasty to me right after i trned down those schools.

what i don't nderstand is why people feel the need to drag down union workers, rather than banding together to lift themselves up.
reminds me of this line from one of my favorite tv shows, the boondocks:
"...the only thing a crab is good for is holding back other crabs. a crab don't wanna see another crab make it...a crab is like, 'if i'm gonna die, we're ALL gonna die..."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipg4EL_JUyE
the show itself was more or less about racism and the strggles for people in the inner city trying to get out of the ghettos (the crab barrel), bt the parallels when it comes to the working/middle class are incredible. why on earth wouldn't we all try to build each other up, rather than tear each other down? this isn't socialism, it's simply getting an honest wage. even henry ford knew the benefits of paying his workers well.
sidenote: this isn't to say nions don't have their problems, but it's far better than the alternative. the reason unions exist in the first place was to combat the awful working conditions that existed before and as we can all see, the little man always gets the ax first when the chips are down.

at first YES! and if i'm completely honest, it's ruined a couple experiences for me. now? eh, not so much anymore, bt i've definitely heard from some girls who have dated ex-jws, that it's rocky as hell.

Science and the supernatural - thoughts and opinions wanted
by freshstart ini definitely support science, i think that the entire field is fascinating.
the things that have been discovered and that will be discovered in the future is mind-boggling.
i do wonder, however, if there is some things that science can't explain.

i spent years trying to use the force to grab the tv remote, unfortnately it never happened.
a few times i even said, 'you know satan...if yo could help me out with this, i might consider trning to the dark side...'
still nothing. if that didn't work, i dunno what will, because i would have given up anything to be a jedi back in the day and isn't satan supposed to be some sort of roaring liger trying to bite my spiritual head off? i was all lathered p in barbecue sace waiting to be devoured and he never showed up. shows what a pansy satan is, or maybe he was on a diet at the time...

the explanation i was given is the same thing that nolaw said, after the 'trials and triblations' they faced before (a self fulfilling prophecy i might add) they decided to stop using windows for kingdom halls for security.
i wonder if that means they'll start stock piling guns for the great tribulation. after all...it IS spiritual warfare...

How the heat changed it all
by MrFreeze init was quite a heatwave here in pittsburgh in the year 1988. one sunday afternoon two men dressed in full suits walked up to my mom's house.
she was outside with her children playing in a small plastic pool in the front yard, trying to beat the 100+ degree heat.
she felt bad for these men so she invited them in for a drink to get out of the heat.

my mom stdied for a bit when i was first born, quit and we moved in with her bf at the time when i was 5.
unfortunately...one day she went to take out the garbage and a pioneer was JUST about to pass by our door as she thought our apartment was empty and it all went to hell from there.
i totally feel your pain. satan is real and he does the pioneer walk

Watchtower on Kingdom Centennial Birthday?
by Marvin Shilmer inwatchtower on kingdom centennial birthday?.
today i uploaded a new article to my blog addressing the gigantic birthday party the watchtower organization held for itself in 1984, and it wonders whether it will show the same courtesy to the birth of gods heavenly kingdom in 1914?
my article is titled watchtower on kingdom centennial birthday?

by loosie ini have tried to stop hating the organization and all it stands for, but in 7 years i've had to luck in doing so.
i am going to therapy to work this out, but i still hate the wt borg.
i have heard it is bad for you to hate something for so long.

this is my first post here and this place (and many of the other sites) have been helpful.
like you, i wonder the same thing and i think you'll (we? me at least:P) will stop hating the organization either:
1. when it's collapsed under the weight of it's own stupidity
or
2. when you feel fulfilled in life. going back to what the one poster said about it being like breaking up...i think that's a perfect analogy and for me personally, i think emotionally i move on when that emptiness/sadness/whatever is replaced with something better.
may not be the healthiest way of doing things, but that's jst how things seem to be imo. in this case, i don't think i'll feel 100% ok with myself until i've made up for lost time and "fixed" myself. for me that means getting my degree, having a happy family life, learning how to feel comfortable in my own skin/in the world around me, gaining self confidence, etc.
